Denim Shirt Lookbook | Spring 2017

Good Evening Munchkins!

Today I will be sharing with you some of my favourite outfits during Spring/Summer, featuring my much loved denim shirt. Last year, I literally lived in this from March all the way through to August, and I have a feeling I’m going to be the same this year! It’s slowly becoming a staple in my wardrobe once again, so I thought I would share with you some combinations I like to wear it with in Spring time. Just as a little disclaimer, this denim shirt was given to me by my Mum and was something she used to wear when she was younger, so I have no idea where it’s from! There’s probably loads of alternatives to this one, though, so please don’t be too disheartened.

On slightly cooler days, I may wear leggings and a normal length T-shirt partnered with my denim jacket. I’m sure I’ve featured all these clothes on here before, but it’s always nice to see how other people like to wear them! If it’s not already noticeable, this is mainly for casual wear. Going from top to bottom, the FRIENDS t-shirt is from Primark, the ‘Living For The Weekend’ top is from H&M and the Dan and Phil top is probably from Ebay!

On nicer, hotter days, I will choose to wear a crop top instead so that I’m not wearing too much material, but the denim jacket keeps me covered if there is a breeze (which there always seems to be when you live by the sea!). Again, I will wear leggings because it is still Spring in England! All of these tops are from New Look, (apart from the last one which is also from Primark) and I think the orange and grey looks most stunning against the blue of the denim jacket. How many of you were betting I would say that?!

And there we have it! I hope you have enjoyed this blog post – I love writing about clothes and fashion so please let me know if you have liked reading about it. Not very much to say but I did want to keep this mainly about the pictures and for you to use this as some inspiration. I will, of course, wear other things with my denim jacket, but these were my absolute staple outfits last year, and will continue to be so this year, I think. I can always write an updated one with Summer outfits later on in the year because I have a fair few of those as well, so just let me know on that one if you would like it.

Thank you so much for reading and I’ll see you Thursday,

Rachel xx

How To: Coloured Eyeliner

Good Evening Munchkins!

Today I will be writing something a little different (or at least haven’t written in while) and provide you with a beauty-related ‘How To’. This is a huge Spring trend and one that I have actually tried and tested myself (with very positive results!). I’m going to be talking you through how I do it and any little tips and tricks along the way so do keep reading.

The first thing I do when going to complete my winged eyeliner is actually draw on my usual black eyeliner, almost a base/first layer (if you will). I wrote an entire blog post on this which you can view HERE. For this I tend to use Noir from my Sleek i-Divine Palette in ‘Oh So Special’ (available from Boots and Superdrug) because it’s the most pigmented and creamy black eye shadow I own so will really stand out against the colour.

I will then trace the upper line of my wing with whatever colour I have chosen. I tend to choose a shimmer eye shadow because the look I would’ve already created would be quite neutral in preparation for the colour so just gives that ‘pop’ I need. Also, I have an unhealthy addiction to shimmer/glitter. The colour I love to use most is again from the same Sleek palette and is the colour Glitz. This is a true blue shimmer shade that looks stunning with a coral lip and matches my blue eyes very nicely. It also doesn’t look ridiculous (because I will only create another thin line of it) but up-close looks stunning. It also helps my confidence with makeup! This will need a steady hand because I actually find it trickier to trace than actually create the wing but once you’ve nailed it, it’s done! Also, because it’s not so much of a stand-out colour as black is, it can be easier to hide or remove. And that is literally it!

My first tip/trick would be to go for a colour and brand you trust will actually stay on your face. It’s all well and good experimenting with the bright colours but if it’s halfway down you’re face by mid-afternoon it can just look like a disaster. Another tip would be to make sure it matches your outfit or just compliments you/something about you in order for it, again, to not look ridiculous. I also wouldn’t go for a pressed eye shadow that is pure glitter because I did that once and it hardly showed up in the way I desired (this colour was silver, by the way). My penultimate tip (because I like words) is to make sure you are creating you’re ‘base’ eyeliner fairly thick and noticeable but also quite straight (so winged but not like a fairy wing, think Amy Winehouse then subtract some of the drama). This just makes it easier for you whilst adding the colour and helps the eyeliner to stay on a lot longer in general because it encourages it in a pretty simple ‘pattern’. Finally, if you don’t feel confident enough to complete basic eyeliner, this one may not be for you, so just try to conquer the first stage and then the world of eyeliner is your oyster!

And there we have it! That was a very quick one, wasn’t it? I feel like I haven’t written enough so if you have any further questions, please don’t hesitate to ask me. Let me know what makeup trends you have been loving this season or whether you’ve tried out coloured eyeliner for yourself!

Thank you so much for reading and I’ll see you soon,

EOTD: Spring, Everyday, Pink & Shimmery

Good Evening Munchkins!

Today I will be sharing with you an eye makeup look that is very shimmery, very beautiful and very appropriate for spring. For me personally, spring is all about pastel or pale-ish colours and experimenting a lot more with colours within makeup. This can be very neutral or can be the main event of your face, depending on how you apply it, so this could be one for the brave! I love this everyday, pink smokey eye (with very little smokiness!) and feel like it perfectly sums up spring for me. On we go!

The products I used for this look were:

  • Maybelline 24hr Colour Tattoo in Pink Gold: available from Boots and Superdrug
  • Urban Decay Naked Palette, using the colours Buck and Virgin: available from Feel Unique

As you can tell, a lot of shimmer and pink involved already! When I first created this I did think there were aspects I could change (which I will explain as we go along) but I went through my day wearing this very proudly. Also, my eyeliner was very much on fleek that day!

The first thing I did was applied an eye primer. I did this just to make sure all my powder eye shadows stayed in place and it wasn’t just my cream one still on my eyelid at the end of the day (these Maybelline ones are seriously industrial strength!). I didn’t really have to worry about the colour pay off with it being Urban Decay and all! Unsurprisingly, it’s very difficult to just use a tiny bit of eye primer; my intention was my crease and inner half of my eye but it ended up all over my lid because it just wasn’t worth the hassle!

I then applied a little bit of Pink Gold onto the outer half of my eye using my finger. I hadn’t used this colour in months and seeing as it was cream, I was kind of scared that it would’ve dried up but it worked and I’m so happy as it was one of my absolute fave eye shadows last spring/summer! I have very small fingers (I’m a very small person!) so it didn’t really matter which finger I used (I also have quite big eyes) though I would recommend the index finger as that’s the smallest finger with most control (very good luck with using your baby finger!).

I then applied Buck directly into my crease, blending out the edges of Pink Gold at the same time. I just used a small, dense blending brush for this. I didn’t use too much as I wanted the pink to be the main attraction and definition wasn’t my main focus, but I wanted a little something just to make it look like I had crevices. Wait…

Taking a very small, flat-headed eye shadow brush, I applied Virgin on the inner half of my eye. Weird order, I know! This is so pigmented and in the pan it looks like a shimmery white with pink reflexes but it’s a lot lighter than I could have every imagined! This does look pretty shocking at first but trust me, after blending and all the other final touches, it doesn’t look too in-your-face. I also wear glasses so yay for thick, black frames!

I then of course applied my usual eyeliner with a black eye shadow and angled brush. On this particular day of taking pictures, it was very small and thin, a huge change for me! I did really like it though and toned down the pink a little bit but not too much so it was still evident. I’m pretty sure I’ve mentioned this before, but I feel like eyeliner helps to draw everything on the eye together and this definitely did that! When I first applied it all, I was a little worried but my savior came to the rescue!

And there we have it! Let me know what you think of this look, what you have been wearing a lot of this spring, how you choose to wear your makeup now it is that time of year or what you would like to see more of. If you try this look out, send me pictures and tell me what you think of it! Also, if you have any other questions surrounding this look or anything you have seen on my blog, you are more than welcome to ask me in the comments below.

Thank you so much for reading and I will see you soon,

MOTD: Easter Sunday/Spring Champagne Eye & Pink Lip

Good Afternoon Munchkins!

Today I will be showing you the makeup I wore last Sunday as it was Easter Sunday (surprisingly enough) and I tried out a new palette I had received. Neither I or my family are particularly religious but we did go out for lunch and obviously I had to dress up all nicely for the occasion! I didn’t really know what I wanted or what I was getting until I had completed it but I knew I wanted something bright and spring-like but also really classy. I did wear a kind of winter-y dress because it’s England and the weather was constantly changing so I did have to also adapt to that and I think it worked! I loved my outfit and my makeup and I can’t wait to share it with you!

The products I used for this look were:

  • Rimmel Scandeleyes Eye Shadow Stick in 002 Bulletproof Beige – available from Boots and Superdrug (see review HERE)
  • Makeup Revolution 32 Palette in Flawless Mattes, L-R: Rust, Rosewood, Earth – available from Superdrug
  • Rimmel Lasting Finish Lipstick in 086 Sugar Plum – available from Boots and Superdrug (see review HERE)

As you can tell, I really wanted to try out my new palette and tried to incorporate as many colours as possible! I’ve been addicted to Instagram makeup videos recently and they always start with light-ish peach-y colours in the crease and makes everything look amazing once it’s finished so of course I had to try it!

The first thing I did was applied Bulletproof Beige straight from the crayon over the inner two thirds of my eye (basically from inner corner to the beginning of the outer third. That probably didn’t help either!). This is packed quite a lot with shimmer so for a slightly shimmer look, if will need blending slightly with your finger just to remove some of the excess glitter.

I then took a small, dense blending brush and applied Rust all through my crease. I was quite untidy with this so that once I’d applied the other colours it was still obvious that it was there and created further definition. I didn’t go right up into the brow bone but it was a controlled mess, if you will.

I next took a little bit of Rosewood to further the definition, using the same brush. I kept this a lot more controlled so it was definitely in the crease and made it look darker than what it already was. If this ever looked too dark I would take a fluffy brush and blend out the edges and not make it look too harsh. I didn’t need to reapply as I got the amount of definition I wanted straight away (this palette is actually quite pigmented!).

Taking a small, flat-headed eye shadow brush, I applied Earth on the outer third of my eye (the remaining part). This did look a bit harsh in the beginning so the trick to using this eye shadow was to blend it all together then reapply and repeat. This was for a lunch with the family so I didn’t want it really heavy and smokey, though this colour would be perfect for that (future reference there!). This can be blended down to create a day-ish look though, which is what I was going for.

I then applied my usual winged eyeliner using Crave from my Urban Decay Naked Basics Palette. As I said, I didn’t want anything too smokey or too drag queen so I went for a small wing. I’ve been going for small wings at the moment as it’s a lot easier and safer if you’re in a rush (basically me everyday!). I am waiting to bring out the big wings soon though, just need to find the right time and makeup.

For my lips I just applied my beloved Sugar Plum straight from the bullet. I feel like this colour tied the whole look together and I love how this compliments my hair and skin tone. This is very spring-y and I will be uploading a spring lip product blog post sometime soon so I will tell you more about that then. I love this colour so much and I felt it made my lower lip look fuller, which I also love!

And there we have it! I had a really nice day and I hope you did too in whatever way you spent it. I actually really looked forward to Easter this year, I have no idea why! If you did your makeup special for the Easter occasion, let me know how in the comments or what you’ve been loving wearing on your face recently!

Thank you so much for reading and I’ll see you soon,

Bucket List for S/S with ChummyC

Good morning, Munchkins. Yes, it’s Monday, I’m aware of that factor but I’m ill, extremely ill. Like, I’ve got the worst cold ever, and I am always, every single year the last person to get them. So I’m at home and letting the medicine kick in. Last night however me and my Chummy C (C standing for Courtney) were texting and she was saying how we need to come up with a bucket list for S/S. I know a bucket list is like a list full of things you want to do before you die, but I might die in September, hopefully I won’t, but there’s always the possibility. How depressing do I sound this morning?! So yeah. Then I thought of the idea of me coming up with 10 for her and she comes up with 10 for me and we’d share them. I’ll tell you her’s now and then mine and just explain them a bit as we go along.

My Bucket List for Courtney for S/S

1. Wear more everyday dresses but not so short you get kicked out of places. I came up with this one because she only ever wears dresses when she’s going out at night and they’re really short but I’ve seen loads of day dresses that would suit her and she should just take the plunge. Ooh, plunge. Sound a little bit creepy now.

2. Wear more outgoing colours in makeup but not so overloaded unless your going out. Whenever I see her she’s always wearing the same sorts of colours and it actually annoys me. For my birthday my Granny is arranging for me to meet up with this lady that lives near me who will tell me what colours I suit etc and I’m hoping Courtney will be able to come as well so she can also be told and then wear those colours.

3. Try and wear more flat shoes in the day. Apart from school she never wears flat shoes, and she went to this like foot therapist the other day where they’re deforming her feet. She’s 4 months older than me and she’s going to be 14 later this year, but still. One day, I’ll get her a whole range of converses or vans, just so she doesn’t have to say she hasn’t got any. Always thinking!

4. Put hair up in more unique and different ways. Her hair is so long and so straight and so knot-free it’s amazing, but she only ever does like messy bun, ponytail or down and a few bits gripped back. I would like to see her hair in different ways because it is really easy to work with so yeah. Something different would be nice.

5. Try to stop playing on iPod after 11 o clock. She’s just told me that she stops playing after 10, but she doesn’t get to sleep until like 2 in the morning most nights and then wakes up at like 7 for school and it really isn’t enough. She just needs more sleep to be honest.

6. Spend money on things you really want and don’t hesitate! Over the past few years she has saved up around £200 and says its for her future and fair enough her family aren’t bursting with money but neither’s mine and we just about get by. She was in Primark the other day and liked a lot of things and if it were me I would spend it, but she was like, ‘Oh, it’s for my car and my prom dress’ etc. It’s really hard buying like 5 things and she’s only got a pair of shoes.

7. Have fat days if you want fat days. She is extremely worried about her weight even though she’s dead skinny and we share lunch at school so she eats less calories, but she needs to learn that eating a bit of cake won’t harm you if you’re only eating a little bit.

8. Don’t spend a lot of money you could buy for less. I know I’ve just said don’t hesitate, but for her 12th birthday she got a Kardashian leopard print purse for £50 from New York when I’m sure there’s a cheaper version out there. OK, so it won’t be Kardashian, so what? It’s just a brand and you could get away with another leopard print purse for less than £20 anywhere else in your own country. She now has no money to put in it because she’s spent it all.

9. Experiment with new things (clothes and makeup)This is sort of to do with the other makeup and everyday dress ones.

10. Find the colour that suits your skin tone. This is again to do with the makeup thing.

Now onto my Bucket list. Obviously I can’t really explain these so I’ll just list them.

1. To talk to a boy I think is fit and do a bit of flirting.

2. Go out again in the Summer.

3. To try and speak to more boys.

4. Don’t worry too much about your weight.

5. Wear at least one sexy outfit (by sexy I mean a little more revealing but not horrible Miley Cyrus look)

6. Try to be more confident with people.

7. Find a colour that suits you and get a new outfit that really suits you to wear out.

8. Try new things/say yes to things you might not usually say yes to.

9. Try new makeup ideas.

10. Talk to more boys you would usually shy away from.

OK, so that’s all of them. We thought this was a really fun way to boost our confidence and make us a bit better at doing certain things. As you can tell I’m usually shy around boys, but we’re going to try our hardest to complete these things. If you want to do this go ahead there’s no body stopping you from being young and free and be able to boost your confidence. I’ll update you and we’ll probably stop doing it when we go back to school after the summer holidays in September.

Thank you for reading and talk to you later,

Rachel xx
