March Favourites 2017

Good Evening Munchkins!

Today I will be sharing with you my March Favourites! I know every single blogger since the beginning of time says this, but where has the time gone?! I feel like I’ve blinked and I’ve been fast-forwarded to March 2017, it’s just insane. This month has had highs and lows, including getting my prom dress and real friends proving who they really are. I think I’ve also definitely decided which college I’m going to, but I will only write a follow-up blog post on that once it’s definite (i.e. when I’m driving there for my first day!). Anyway, it’s only a month and a half until my first exam and I’m having a complete mental breakdown, but let’s continue on with the blog post!

The first thing I have been loving this month has been the Lancome La Base Paupieres Pro (basically a primer!) in 02 Beige Porcelaine. I received this on quite sad circumstances but this has magical powers I had not before experienced! This is really easy to work with – think the Maybelline 24hr Colour Tattoo’s but skin coloured – and helps to maintain my eye makeup for the entire day, no matter what I’m doing. I don’t think it’s waterproof, but I wouldn’t expect my powder eye shadows, which I apply on top, to be either. I just apply this with my finger and set with some powder and it’s all good to go. I haven’t noticed any extra help in blending because I’ve always applied powder onto my primer and my eye shadows seem to be pretty good in that respect anyway, but I’m sure it’s noticeable to some! It does, however, help to colour correct my eye lid and hide any veins which may have appeared, though they usually don’t, without appearing too thick or clumpy on my lid. This colour does appear to have some shimmers in, but once set with powder you really can’t notice it if you wanted to do a completely matte eye. It hasn’t disrupted my eyeliner yet, either, which is a massive thing to me! This is available from Boots, John Lewis and Debenhams, as well as some other department stores.

Another beauty thing I’ve been loving his month has been liquid eyeliner. Long-term readers will know my love for black winged liner (as just mentioned!), and it’s taken me forever to finally gain the confidence to use a liquid one! At the moment I’m just using this cheap one I got in a magazine goodness knows how long ago, but I am planning on getting the Collection one soon as it’s had great reviews and it looks fairly similar to the one I’ve been playing around with (let me know if that sounds like a good idea to you because it’s a whole new world for me!). It’s still a work in progress and I don’t have the full confidence to wear it everyday, but every so often I try it out just to build my skill and technique with it. It’s not as difficult as I initially thought, though that could be down to me using gel eyeliner very precisely for the past 7 months!

The third thing on my list for the month has been lip glosses. I have a bit of a love/hate relationship with lip glosses for a whole host of reasons, but this month I’ve really liked just popping one on for a day-to-day look, or out shopping, or for college meetings etc.. The one I’ve featured in the picture is Tanya Burr’s Aphrodite (which, I think, has sadly been discontinued) which is a shade I’ve reunited with this month; it’s a gorgeous subtle pink-y red that is perfect for a sunny Spring/Summer day. I just really like how easy they are to (literally) pop on and know that if some colour comes off it’s not too noticeable, meaning I don’t need to keep reapplying. They also don’t dry my lips out, which is something I’ve actually struggled with these past few months when using different lip products. They also feel lighter and more appropriate to the warmer weather, I don’t know why!

I’ve already featured this in an earlier blog post, but this month I read and fell in love with A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness. This was lent to me by my Aunt after she said ‘it’s a kids book, but a really bloody good kids book’! That was obviously enough for me to read it! I knew some background knowledge about this because the film came out around the end of last year and I’d seen the trailer on TV, but this book is the most emotional yet innocent thing to have ever been absorbed into my brain. I think it pulls at the heart strings even more because of the fact it’s written from such an innocent perspective of a 13-year-old boy. This story follows the main character, Connor, as he has to care for his Mum who has cancer (and we all know what will happen there). He meets The Monster (which still confuses me slightly, is he meant to be something metaphorical?) who helps him overcome a series of hurdles and yes, this will make you cry. It’s in third person, which I don’t usually lean towards, but oh-me oh-my is this a book which will manifest your life! Even if you just borrow it from the library, it needs to be read! This is available from WHSmith, Waterstones and most other book shops.

Another book my Aunt lent me and had to be included in my Favourites was The Girl On The Train by Paula Hawkins. I haven’t actually finished this because I read A Monster Calls first and this is a much thicker book to get through, but I am so hooked, more than I ever thought I would. Despite all the books I have read over the years, this is the first adult book I’ve ever read, so I was slightly anxious that I wouldn’t understand it or that it would go straight over my head, but I understand it and I’m feeling all the feels! This is a mystery/thriller (basically the complete opposite of the heart-wrenching book I’d read beforehand, though I haven’t actually got to the thriller bit yet!) and it contains multiple narratives, which I’m an absolute sucker for! I can’t tell you much about it because it’s so easy to give stuff away, but it’s about an alcoholic called Rachel (bodes well!) who gets the same train to work everyday and so see’s the same people doing their usual routine on those days, as well. And then all these things happen and people go missing and Rachel get’s involved and there’s ex-husbands and babies and you need to read this before I annoy everyone out there! As I say, I haven’t finished it yet, but I know it’s going to be a book that takes over my life! This is also available from WHSmith, Waterstone and most other book shops.

The final thing I have been loving this month is Snapchat. Once again, I’m the last on the bandwagon, but I have now joined in with that teenage trend of multiple filters and aimed posts! Just kidding, I don’t aim things just as a matter of principle! It has now become my most favoured app on my phone; I just find it so addictive and I need to check for new filters every day, just in case! I’ve actually found it’s also built my confidence in terms of taking photos of myself and choosing to share them with others – I’ve only got a few friends on there who I know and trust, whereas I sometimes feel my Instagram and Facebook are a bit of a free for all. Talking of Instagram, I’m seriously thinking about starting an account for this blog (ChummyR) on there but I will only do it when I have more time (i.e. when most/all of my exams are done in June) so that I can keep you updated on a daily basis and build more of a connection with you. I know uploading a blog post 3 times a week is a lot for some bloggers, but I always feel like I could build on it. So, yeah, just let me know what you think of that idea!

And there we have it! I hope you have enjoyed this blog post – I love writing Favourites blog posts, even if it does make me panic with my other deadlines that I fear are looming! Let me know what you like from this little selection if you have used or read anything mentioned, and what products have been some of your Favourites this month!

Thank you so much for reading and I’ll see you Sunday,

Rachel xx

February Favourites 2017

Good Evening Munchkins!

Today I will be sharing with you my February Favourites. I’ve collected a good selection of different bits and bobs that I am going to share with you and I think you will also love! I haven’t been able to make my usual list this month, though, because I’ve changed phones and everything’s just been a bit up in the air. Nonetheless, this is what I remember that I love! As you will soon see, this month has been the month of positive changes (finally!)!

The first thing I have been loving this month has been the L’Oreal True Match Le Blush in Sandalwood Pink. Those who have been reading my blog for a while will know that I don’t like a lot of blush because I have naturally rosy cheeks, so once I’ve got my foundation on I don’t want to reverse what that’s just done. This is a deep rosy powder shade that is super pigmented (so use in small doses) and gives a gorgeous, natural blush to the cheeks. It goes with a range of contour shades, highlighters and skin tones and I cannot fault it whatsoever. It also lasts all day long and can be used to dress a look up or for everyday wear, so is very versatile. I have been loving this, and considering I’ve used it every day for a good few weeks, there’s hardly a dent in the pan. I also feel a little bit fancier when wearing this because it’s the only L’Oreal product in my everyday collection! This is available from Boots and Superdrug.

Recently I wrote a blog post about getting my cartilage pierced (see that HERE) and, of course, it had to be mentioned in my Favourites! I am so in love with my new piercing and the pain has now significantly decreased, meaning I can sleep on that side again and not scream every time something is in a 3 metre radius of it! I love how it looks and I’m still treating it with the solution the piercer gave me three times a day, so hopefully no allergies develop like they did in my lobes. I’ve got my first ring that I’m dying to put in after the initial 8 week period and, better yet, no one at school’s picked up on it! I’m just obsessed and would recommend to anyone who wants it to get it done! I got my cartilage pierced at Claires.

One of the newest things I’ve been loving is my hair cut. I did initially just want the dead ends/split ends cut off and I asked my friend who’s a training hairdresser, but he cut off about 4 inches in the end! Obviously, I couldn’t see what he was doing as he was doing it but I did really like the end result! It’s just slightly longer than a bob, which is really on trend at the moment, and he also put layers in it. I’m just obsessed with it; as much as I loved my longer hair, it wasn’t healthy and it will grow back really quickly now. It’s so much more manageable and it only took me 5 minutes to dry when I washed it last night! It’s the shortest I’ve had it since being a child, but I really do wish I’d done it earlier!

Onto random favourites, I have been loving reading in the bath. This is something else I wish I’d tried earlier but I was so worried about damaging my beloved books, being as clumsy as I am! I just find it is one of the best ways for me to relax and de-stress, and it’s even calmed my anxiety to a certain extent. I just love to take half an hour out of my evening a few times a week to enjoy a nice warm bath with some bubbles in and fully immerse myself into the book. I think this is something for pure book lovers, but it’s literally my new favourite hobby! It literally takes me out of my day and any situation I may be in to enjoy my book, and that’s a feeling no one will ever take away from me!

And the book I have been loving to read in the bath has been All The Bright Places by Jennifer Niven. By the time this blog post has gone up, I should have finished it completely, but the massive plot twist that has happened has just broken my heart into a million pieces! I don’t think I’ve mentioned it before (sorry if I have) but it really is the most beautifully written book about such a sensitive, raw issue that I have ever read. It’s basically a love story between Violet, who’s sister has recently died, and Theo (who’s nicknamed Finch), who wants to die – to put it bluntly! They both unexpectedly meet at the top of their school bell tower which forms into an unlikely friendship, and we all know where it leads from there! I think there’s going to be a film of it soon, as well, so I’m just preparing myself for that! This is available from Waterstones, WHSmith, Ebay, Amazon and most other bookstores.

Finally, I’ve been watching and very much enjoying the new series of Celebs Go Dating on E4. I did try and watch the last series in the summer but it didn’t appeal to me too much, though this series really has me hooked! As I write, it’s literally on in the background and I think the celebrities on this series are just so funny and I actually know who they all are, which is a bonus! It’s something that’s really good to just have a bit of a laugh at and wind down to in the evening…or afternoon…or morning! I think it’s on every weeknight, but they’re all on catch up so I’ve just been massively binge-watching them! If you like a bit of reality TV with a lot of laughs, this is the one for you!

And there we have it! I hope you have enjoyed this blog post – I love writing Favourites, even if it does cause a slight existential crisis! Just to let you all know, my next blog post will be uploaded on Friday as opposed to Thursday, for reasons you will soon read. As of next week, though, the routine will continue as it has been. Don’t forget to let me know what you’re favourites have been this month or what items you also like from my little selection!

Thank you so much for reading and I’ll see you Friday,

Rachel xx

January Favourites 2017

Good Evening Munchkins!

Today marks the final day of the longest month of the year! This month started quite randomly in my friend’s garden and is ending with me sat in the exam hall all week – what a turn of events! January for me is just a month to get through because February is, of course, my birthday month and after that it becomes Spring and it gets ever-so-slightly warmer! Anyway, this hasn’t the prevented me from finding a fair few favourites for you, all of which I have loved and successfully helped me survive January!

My first favourite, of course, is the Morphe 35K palette. I was very lucky to receive this for Christmas and all of my makeup woes have been put to bed! This is the biggest palette I own and it’s literally going to last me forever, I’m so excited! This contains mainly neutral-ish colours with a variety of shimmery and matte shades, meaning it’s perfect for daytime or evening (or both, all at the same time!). All of these shades are so pigmented and creamy, and the lack of fallout I’ve had has been life changing! This is fairly inexpensive for what it is and contains as well, so I would highly recommend this to any makeup lover and every makeup artist should have one of these palettes in their kit! They blend so beautifully, they are honestly a dream to work with! I’ve used this nearly everyday in January and the colours I’ve lent towards most hardly have a dent in them – this is going to be loved forevermore and I cannot wait to get my hands on some more of their palettes! This is available from Beauty Bay.

Heading onto bath and body, I have been loving the Imperial Leather Comforting Marshmallow Soap (because I’m so fun at the grand age of 15!). I tend to use this for shaving and only started to because it was just in the shower being used by the rest of the family, but (from previous experience) I knew how good Imperial Leather soaps are. It felt like pay-day! This smells amazing, and I know I love every scent under the sun, but it’s really accessible to a lot of people; it’s not sickly sweet like some marshmallow products can be, it has some floral notes in there but it still contains a strong, long-lasting scent. I also struggle, like most people, with dry skin at this time of year but this soap doesn’t dry it out any further and it actually feels as if it’s moisturising them, making it perfect for shaving. It also lathers really nicely and makes you smell so good for quite a large amount of time. This is available from Boots, Superdrug and most supermarkets.

This will come as no surprise to a lot of people, but I have been loving my black Vans this month. Again, I was lucky enough to receive these for Christmas and I have been in them constantly. Despite the slightly embarrassing encounter in the shop where I had to size down to a UK 3.5 (there goes my final piece of dignity!), they do look amazing literally with anything! I could wear them with leggings, a dress or a playsuit and still look decent and not entirely like I live on Benefits Street! As I was saying to my Mum when I bought them, I did kind of want them for the label because I believe everyone should have a pair of Vans in their collection and they are stunning! They’re also the only pair of shoes I haven’t scuffed up/ruined in some way just yet, which is always a positive! They feel really nice and sturdy on my feet as well, something that I think is a necessity in a shoe! These are available from Vans.

I also have a few random favourites this month which have been dominating my life. The first one is eating disorder recovery Instagram pages, which is very long-winded but I think that’s the correct way to name them! I found these at the beginning of the month when I wasn’t feeling too confident with my body or size after all the Christmas weight I had put on and they have boosted my mental self esteem so much. I’ve been following one and I look forward to her posts everyday, and, despite not having had an eating disorder myself, I really do resonate with her in terms of the mental side of things and it’s been a huge comfort to me that I’m not the only one who thinks these kind of things. But yes, if you need a little mental boost or are going through an eating disorder yourself, you should check these pages out because they will seriously help you. I think most of them have the hashtag of #edrecovery or just #ed, you may have to look around but there are some great ones (‘ed’ standing for ‘eating disorder’).

Finally, I have been loving some actual new music this month! Who’d have thought it! The first song I fell in love with was Million Reasons by Lady Gaga. I used to be very anti-Lady Gaga during the Poker Face stage because I just thought she was a bit crazy, (and not for the right reasons) but now, since her more emotional music has come out, I really do enjoy her voice. I’m starting to teach myself to sing it because it is so beautiful and something I can actually relate to in a previous part of my life. I just think it’s stunning and would highly recommend everyone to listen to it!

I’ve also fallen in love with the American jazz singer Gregory Porter (who is still alive, it’s a miracle for me!). I first heard him singing live on a chat show and it was one of those moment where I was like ‘your soul and your music, just marry me now!’. Long-term readers will know how much I love me my jazz music so finding a current, up-and-coming singer has been a dream come true for me! I’m still waiting to find the one particular song that grabs me, but I love his cover of When You Wish Upon a Star. Loving those Disney vibes, as well! As I continue my quest of all the music he has every produced, I will let you know which songs will be my new all-time favourites!

And there we have it! I hope you have enjoyed this blog post – I can’t believe January is over already, next thing for me is turning 16, how crazy is that! Let me know what you think of any of my Favourites I have mentioned to you or what your Favourites for this month have been! Also, let me know if you want any more information on any of the items listed and I will try my best to give you all that you need!

Thank you so much for reading and I’ll see you Thursday,

Rachel xx

November Favourites 2016

Good Evening Munchkins!

To mark the end of yet another month, I will be writing for you my November Favourites. I’m pretty sure I’ve said this every month this year, but time is going by so fast and I honestly don’t know where it’s going! This month has been full of some good times as well as bad times, but all in preparation for Christmas which I’m oh-so excited for this year! Anyway, I have a pretty good selection of Favourites for you this month which I’m super excited to share with you!

My first Favourite will comes as no surprise to those who have read my blog post last week; it’s been my beloved Urban Decay Naked Palette. You will be seeing a little bit more of this soon but I’ve kind of decided to dedicate a week or so to one palette at a time to ensure I actually use it and all the colours I can whilst at school. So far, this plan has worked and so this has been my go-to palette for the month and I’ve discovered some new favourite eye shadows from there which I will be sharing with you very soon! As the name suggests, this contains nearly all neutral-ish shades, most of which I’ve found wearable for day-to-day. All of these colours are pigmented, creamy and so easy to use for a daytime look or even for an evening-time eye. To read my All About on this, you can click HERE and you can purchase the palette from Feel Unique HERE.

My second Favourite of the month has been the Keratin Classic Conditioner for Smooth, Straight, Sleek hair. I started reaching for this, quite simply, because I’d run out of my usual conditioner and this was just to hand in the shower at the time. Never did I expect the effects it gives my hair that it does! This smooths it and makes it so much straighter and, hence, easier to maintain and work with day-to-day. I do still like to leave some of my hair a little bit curly and this allows me to do so without my it looking too crazy! The only issue is I don’t know where this is from and therefore it’s price, though I’m 99% sure it’s affordable. I’m kind of rationing it so that it will last longer so if you do spot it, let me know where because I love this conditioner so much and I need to re-purchase it!

My fashion Favourite for the month has been this cable-knit cardigan from Primark that I bought about 2 years ago (though they have them near enough everywhere at this time of year!). I’m even wearing it as I type now – you literally can’t get me out of it! As I say, I bought it a couple of years ago but when I brought it home I wasn’t too keen on the shape of it and the stripes it has (at the time I had a super broad back and it only emphasized it further). However, as I’ve gotten older and my body has developed some more, the shape now suits it really nicely as it just hangs in a really effective way (I’m doing terribly at describing this, I know!). It does have some cream buttons but I don’t tend to do it up because I prefer it open and then wrapping it around myself if need be. The sleeves are slightly turned up and the actual pattern is cream/black stripes which means it goes with near enough everything and so is perfect for chucking on after school when I get in and its really cold. This was only £10 so it was really affordable and to wear year after year, I think it’s definitely worth it! It’s quite a thick material, as well, so it will keep you warm!

Onto my random Favourites, I have loved this last season of American Horror Story: Roanoke House. If you’ve been reading my blog for a while now, you will know how much I bloody love American Horror Story and this season still managed to captivate me and entertain me and, of course, horrify me! For those that haven’t seen it, Roanoke follows a documentary-type reenactment of a couples story when they move into this haunted house and the things that happens there. It mainly revolves around what happens during the occasional Blood Moon in which all the spirits of the residents that used to live there come back to life and torture the current owners. The next set of episodes then follow what happens when the actors from the reenactment and the real people go back into the house for a special series of it. I will put it out there, this is a really gruesome series (the most I’ve seen so far, actually) and I personally enjoyed that, but I know a lot of people won’t. It contained so many plot twists and such depth to each individual character that even for that, I had to include it in my Favourites! I wasn’t so keen by the last few episodes as I found it quite repetitive but the middle section of episodes really had me hooked and I would highly recommend it to any American Horror Story fan who has, for some reason, missed this series! If you can, somehow, legally watch this even though it’s finished, I really do suggest that you do! Or wait until it comes on Netflix like I am!

My last couple of Favourites have been a couple of songs that are actually current, which is a surprise to us all! The first one I think everyone and their Mother knows by now: Shout Out To My Ex by Little Mix. This song does something to my soul I can’t put into words! I’m only joking, but the beat and the lyrics and the vocals – slays me every time! Can we also talk about the makeup and Perrie’s sass game!? This is the point where I become a ‘proper’ teenage girl! I have a thing for shady but funny lyrics and, of course, it ticks those boxes! The second song I’ve been loving is Famous by Nathan Sykes. Again, I’m going to be really honest with you now: I was a proper The Wanted fangirl when I was younger, to the point where my friends and I actually made a club based around them! Looking back, it’s so cringey but at the time we thought we were so cool! So, obviously, I was completely heartbroken when I learnt the news they had split up but then Mr Sykes turned up with his new tunes and I thought ‘hmm, maybe it wasn’t a bad idea after all’! I can’t put my finger on what genre it is, but it is right up my alley (if I was to guess I’d say soul-ish). I did not expect it from him whatsoever but now that I’m older I’m really appreciating that style of music and what it has to offer. Again, the vocals and the beat – brings a smile to my face every time! This is a slightly slower one but it has those 1950’s/1960’s style beats that perk it up a little bit, so I’m not complaining in the slightest!

And there we have it! I hope you have enjoyed this blog post – I can’t believe the next one I’m going to write will be after Christmas, how crazy is that? I think this is also the perfect time to announce the fact I will be taking part in Blogmas again this year, in which you will receive a blog post from me every single day in December up until Christmas Eve. I’m still in the process of deciding when I will re-start my blog after the festive period, but I don’t want to have too long off! I will let you know once I’ve decided though! Anyway, don’t forget to let me know what you have been loving this month or what I have now persuaded you to try for yourself!

Thank you so much for reading and I’ll see you Thursday,

Rachel xx

October Favourites 2016

Good Evening Munchkins!

To commemorate it being the end of another month (in 2 months time it’ll be 2017 – what is life?!), I thought I would share with you my October Favourites. All throughout October I wrote a different Halloween makeup tutorial for you so don’t forget to go back and check any that you may have missed! As much fun as I had, I think that both you and I are now sick to the teeth of makeup tutorials so back to the usual blog posts we go! Personally I think it’s helped my writing a little bit more and it is making me keen for some more makeup tutorials in the future, but let’s keep them a bit calmer this time round! Anyway, I’m going to stop chatting so we can get on with this months Favourites.

My first Favourite of October has got to be this Hide The Blemish Concealer from Rimmel in the shade Ivory. This is the whitest concealer I have ever seen and it’s taken me a while to get round to actually using it, but now I have I think it’s going to become a staple in my makeup collection! I also use a super white foundation yet this still helps me to highlight under my eyes and any other parts of my face that look a bit dull without it looking crazy! I never thought I’d find a colour like this to match my skin so well! This is a cream product so it lasts a fairly long time, it’s super pigmented so covers any redness and, of course, the much hated under eye circles and it’s also super affordable as it’s Rimmel! This does come in a variety of colours so there will be one for you! This concealer is available from Boots and Superdrug.

My second Favourite of last month is the W7 Neon Nights Palette. This will come as no surprise to those of you who have read any of my Halloween blog posts – I think it near enough featured in all of them! Obviously this is the ultimate Halloween palette and I wouldn’t be expected to wear lime green all year round, but for what it is it’s amazing! I’ve used it on myself as well as other people for Halloween and the longevity of these eye shadows are amazing as well as their blending power and pigmentation. Some colours are less pigmented than others but if that’s the case I just swap my brush for a finger and it goes on perfectly! This contains nearly every colour of the rainbow, I should think, with a mixture of 12 matte and shimmer shades (though the shimmer isn’t that chunky) and one pure glitter colour that looks amazing when packed on as a dramatic highlight. This is also super affordable! This is available from Ebay.

My next Favourite may come as a surprise to long time readers, but it’s the Maybelline Master Sculpt Compact in Light/Medium. If you are one of those long time readers and you remember me talking about it before (firstly, 30 points for you!), you will know I wasn’t so keen on the contour shade. Well, I have finally cracked it! Yes, this can look slightly orange still but I have suddenly formed a knack for it and I’m so happy I have! I do still use a light hand because you can always add more, but taking it off is a little trickier, and it can look stunning. I love using this quite messily around the forehead as it gives a really bronzed look and slight gradient when blended which I love. I still have ‘orange contour’ days but on the whole, I’m really happy with it! I’ve also always loved the highlight for the inner corner/brow bone. This is available from Boots and Superdrug.

Onto skincare, my next Favourite comes from Johnson’s (yes, the baby brand) and it’s their Gentle Exfoliating Wash for all skin types, which I never thought I’d say! I’m a bit fussy when it comes to skincare because I still have quite young skin and I know that using some products can prematurely age it and I also tend to not have the time or willingness to do so! However, with this, my view has been changed greatly! Since I’m now wearing a lot more makeup on a day-to-day basis, I thought it would probably be more beneficial than harmful to branch into the world of skincare and this was one of the first things I found (literally in my bath – how crazy is that!). I only use this a couple of times a week so I’m not stripping my face of the ‘good’ oils and I tend to do it when I wash my hair so if any does get in my hair, it’s really easy to get out and I don’t have to cry about it! It also means I almost look forward to using it because I know by this point in the week, my skin probably needs it! I don’t use loads because I have quite a small head but I use enough to get right in there! This has some little exfoliating beads in there that are really nice and gentle on the skin and, as someone with combination skin, it works so nicely into it! I would highly recommend this for beginners in skincare and I’m guessing it’s pretty affordable considering it’s Johnson’s. This is available from Superdrug and most supermarkets.

Moving quite swiftly onto random Favourites, I have been absolutely loving To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee. I’m pretty sure I’m the last person ever to read this, and I haven’t even finished it yet, but I’m absolutely in love with it! I only bought this because I’ve always had it on my reading list and just so happened to find it in a charity shop for 99p (hence the tattered-ness, please excuse that!). I was not turning down that offer! Anyway, if you have been living under a rock, To Kill a Mockingbird follow the story in the eyes of a 7 (I think that’s right, she ages a couple of years in the book so I’m sure she’s 7 at some point!) year old girl called Scout Finch, who’s father is a lawyer and just so happens to be defending a black man who has allegedly raped a young white girl. There are other aspects to this story but this is what it’s most known for and just remember that this is set in the 1930’s so the divide between black and white was more than emphasized. I’ve just been reading the part about the court case and, honestly, I didn’t want to put it down. I highly recommend you read this at some point in your lives! It’s not as difficult as I think it’s made out to be but it does take a while to get into (but just stick with it, because it is so worth it!). This is available from WHSmith, Waterstones, most supermarkets and most other book shops.

My final Favourite of last month (I’ve had quite a few, actually!) has got to be Halloween. Oh me oh my, have I been in the festive spirit this year! Normally I’m not too fussed when it comes to Halloween but there’s just something in me this year that loves it! It’s probably the combination of Halloween and finally being able to accept it’s the candles-and-cosy-days time of year. And of course my Halloween blog posts all throughout the month of October had to play a role in it! I’ve just really enjoyed the whole vibe of Halloween this year and so I hope you have too! I actually read something this morning that was saying how excited the signs were for Halloween and mine (Aquarius) said 99% – and I can’t deny it one bit!

And there we have it! I hope you have enjoyed this blog post –  I have loved writing it! It’s a really nice change to not write ‘now blend it and blend it and blend it’! Let me know what you’re Favourites were of last month and how you spent your Halloween! Also, don’t forget to tell me what you would like to see next!

Thank you so much for reading and I’ll see you Thursday,

September Favourites 2016

Good Evening Munchkins!

Today, I will very heartbreaking-ly share with you my September Favourites. I’m going to have to say it but it’s so true – this month has just flown by! This month I went back to school, accepted my fate of true human existence and hurt just as much as I smiled, so (once again), a complete mixture! Despite all this, I have managed to accumulate a few Favourites for you (mainly from my new everyday makeup routine!) that I have been loving that I would like to share with you now.

The first thing I’ve been loving is something I started to fall in love with back in August but I wanted to be sure and so waited another month until I spoke about it with you and it is the Body Shop Tea Tree BB Cream in 01. I started using this when I became quite tanned because my shoulders-down would be a gorgeous brown and my neck-up would be entirely white, so I had to turn to this bad boy for my tanned needs. I was quite nervous before using it because when I first tried it, I hated it and chucked it in my drawer to be forgotten forever, but I have fallen head over heels for it! I’m even wearing this to school due to my ability to with hold a tan and it lasts all day and works so nicely onto the skin. This is something I will have to replace with my other foundation soon, but I love the dewy yet natural look it gives my skin and it just makes me feel and look a little bit more alive. I’m not too keen on the smell but I can get over that. I have just really enjoyed using it! This is available from The Body Shop.

The second thing I have been loving I have also been using everyday for school is the Rimmel Wake Me Up Concealer. Okay, let’s be honest now, this month has been the month of re-using old loves! I love this concealer with the BB cream as it actually brightens it and works really nicely over it – maybe even nicer than with the Wake Me Up foundation. I use this under my eyes and along my nose (there’s still a little bit of sun damage on there) and it covers perfectly without looking cakey or creasing anywhere. It also blends with the BB cream really nicely without making it look too obvious that it’s foundation and concealer but, instead, just like skin. I use the shade 010 Ivory and if you would like to see my review, you can click HERE. This is available from Boots and Superdrug.

To contour and slightly bronze this month, I have loved using the No7 Light Loose Powder in Medium. Much like the concealer, I just find that the colour of this works alongside the BB cream amazingly and does make it look like a natural contour. I use this under my cheekbones, along my jawline and hairline and it gives me a bit more structure to my face. This isn’t a specific bronzer or contour product, but I have a natural skin tone so this type of product is perfect to make me look all beautiful without the dreaded orange lines on my face! It’s also matte, making contouring much easier and much less fairy-like. This is available from Boots.

A beauty trick I have been loving this month is applying my usual setting powder into my crease once I have applied a primer. I took this little tip from multiple different makeup/beauty YouTuber’s who also do this and it does genuinely work with any primer and any powder! I use the Rimmel Stay Matte Powder (available from Boots and Superdrug) and MUA Pro-Base Eye Primer (available from Superdrug) and by simply setting the crease, my transition/contour colours blend out much more easily and therefore don’t make me look like a drag queen on a day to day basis. I also have quite oily eyelids so I suppose setting it helps this factor as well! I use this trick everyday that I use an eye primer and even in school, it maintains my eye makeup to be near enough how it started the day! This is now firmly in my routine, and that is where it will stay!

I have one random favourite for this month and it is the new Ariana Grande song, Side To Side. Normally, I don’t really like ‘new’ music, but she’s doing really well at the moment! I still stand by my previously mentioned points about today’s music, but this is one I can’t help but love! I am adoring that kind of reggae-ish vibe and with the addition of Nicki Minaj, I could not be happier! I have found myself coming home everyday and just sticking this on to continue my happy vibes instead of going into a slump and I can honestly say, it has helped that point! I’m also loving her new look – much love for the fringe! You can watch the music video on YouTube.

And there we have it! I can’t believe we’re at the end of yet another month! Though in saying that, I am very excited for Christmas and all the festivities! Life’s going too fast! I hope you have enjoyed this blog post – you guys know by now how much I love writing them! Let me know some of your favourites in the comments below so I can try my hand at some new products!

Thank you so much for reading and I’ll see you Sunday,

Rachel xx
