Do Primark Brush Cleaners Work? | First Impressions

Good Evening Munchkins!

Today I will be sharing with you my initial thoughts and feelings towards the Primark Brush/Beauty Sponge Cleanser Wipes. I bought these a few weeks ago and have only just gotten around to using them. I’m not going to lie, before using these I was very curious but also worried as to what it may do to my beloved brushes and sponges, hence why I’ve put it off for so long! However, cleaning my tools has become fundamental since beginning my Drama exam (which I’m doing the makeup for – my life is complete!) due to hygiene and safety and such. Anyway, let’s see if these do, in fact, work!

17274286_984757291661500_266942903_n

As you can see, this product was on offer in Primark for a very reasonable price, explaining why I thought I’d try it because it’s only £1, which isn’t exactly money down the drain if it doesn’t work. In one box you get 6 wipes, all of which come in their own individual air-tight plastic packets which are very easy to rip open. The wipe inside is soaked through with product, which I don’t mind because it assures me there is definite product on there and isn’t going to dry up after a few brushes. It’s folded very neatly and quite cutely in the packet but does open out to be the size of an average face wipe. I’m not going to lie, the smell is very strong so if you don’t like overly-chemical-y smells, you might want to hold your breath whilst using this. Think nail polish remover/acid kind of scent.

Before and After using the wipes

I first tried this on the beauty blender I use for my Drama exam and didn’t find much product had come off. This product promises to remove makeup from any beauty blender or brush, so I scrubbed a bit harder but I was scared of damaging the sponge itself so stopped. As you can see, the tip of the sponge has broken off due to using the wipe, but that could just be due to it being a cheap little sponge I picked up as a back-up! I did also notice that the bottom of the egg-shape was starting to ‘shed’ slightly so decided to stop. It has got a lot of the makeup off and now when I wipe it on one of the wipes no more product comes off, but it does still look visually unappealing.

17274121_984728118331084_1870367908_n

For this blog post, I also tried it on an eye shadow brush (I’m really sorry for the terrible pictures!) that I usually use for pigments, so a lot of colour and glitter had to be removed from this! I had a bit more success from this though the bristles seemed to clump together afterwards – I do think this was just due to it being wet, though, as that’s what happens when I wash it normally. I did try it on a brush I use everyday, also, and I had even more success with that one, though I didn’t take pictures for that one, unfortunately.

R-L: Before and After using wipes

When using this, I also found it took quite a lot of time to remove all/most of the product stored in the brush so I ended up losing motivation halfway through. For me, I need something quick and easy to use because I really don’t have that much spare time with my up-coming exams and deadlines! I do want to get into the habit of cleaning my brushes and sponges more, though, just because of hygiene reasons and so I can apply makeup onto other people and not feel self-conscious about it. That’s the reason why I thought I would try these wipes because if they worked, they could be massive time-savers for me and so many others in the same position as me!

17238691_984757261661503_59805057_n

Finally, would I recommend it to you? I’m afraid not. I will continue to use them for urgent situations when I don’t have time for my brushes to dry if I were to wash them by hand, but they won’t be my go-to. I really was looking forward to finding something that would significantly help me and my time-saving, but it looks like I’m going to need to keep my eyes peeled and continue to hunt for more tips and products to do just that! In fact, let me know if you know of any or use some for yourself so I can get my hands on them!

And there we have it! I hope you have enjoyed this blog post – even though these were a bit of a flop, I actually really enjoyed writing a First Impressions (something I’ve never done before!). If you’ve tried these, let me know what you thought whilst you were using it and whether I’m doing it wrong (which I probably am!). Also, don’t forget to let me know what else you would like to see on this blog!

Thank you so much for reading and I’ll see you Sunday,

Rachel xx

Pre-Birthday Haul; Superdrug and Primark

Good Evening Munchkins!

Today I will be sharing with you a few bits that I purchased just over a week ago now as a little pre-birthday treat with some money I received early. If I’d known how much I would get from friends and family this year (I was so lucky and I’m so grateful for that!), I probably wouldn’t have gone shopping but I still picked up some bits I needed and thought I’d just share them with you! This isn’t anything too exciting, but I thought I would still chat you through the little pieces I bought.

16923479_972500726220490_281411262_n

As per usual, I couldn’t resist the Primark that was there and had to go in there first! I was on a specific hunt for some lounge pants (random, I know!) and I definitely found what I wanted! The first pair I picked up was this Harry Potter legging-style lounge pant that was completely compulsory of me to get! This is a simple grey with the burgundy/deep red Harry Potter typography up the leg and on the waistband. The only thing I’d say if you were to get these for yourself is to size up because they do wear really small; I’m not sure why but just bare that in mind! I particularly like the waistband on this which is slightly elasticated and they just go with so many tops, meaning I can so easily chuck it on after school when I just want to chill. They’re also slightly fitted around the ankle meaning there is very little chance of me falling over! These were only £6, which you can’t really go wrong with! By the way, sorry that I lost the picture of the waistband, you’ll have to go by my previous description to know what I’m on about!

The next thing I bought in Primark was another pair of legging-style lounge pants, but instead with some New York lettering on it. Going to New York is one of the top things on my bucket list so I had to get them just to represent that! Again, these are plain grey with ‘New York’ written on the slightly elasticated waistband and ‘Brooklyn’ up the left leg, same as the Harry Potter ones. These were £5 – I don’t know why there was a £1 difference, but it’s still such a reasonable price that I can’t contend with! These may also need to be sized up, but they’re not as bad as the Harry Potter ones. I haven’t worn these properly yet, but I think they may be my favourite because of the comfort factor. I don’t think the writing on either of these will come off in the wash either because they don’t look like they’re stickers or anything like that.

The next couple of things I bought in Primark were a few pairs of socks. I love socks; I have no idea why, but they just really float my boat! Anyway, I’m also loving frilly socks at the moment and these warmer/darker colours so I thought I would buy a couple of pairs in burgundy and khaki. These were £2 each, which is so affordable considering there are two pairs in a pack, which will keep me going for a while! I just really like them for dressing up an outfit or chucking them on to wear with my Vans so the frilly bit is showing – they’re so effortlessly stylish and I just can’t get enough of them! These aren’t ankle socks, though, they can be pulled a little bit up the calf so they may not be ideal for some. I don’t mind, I just love the colour of them! They also had a few more colours available from what I saw.

16900060_971843172952912_1471082304_n

The last thing I bought in Primark was this little pack of brush/beauty blender cleanser wipe things. These really intrigued me and the box just contains 6 wipes which are supposed to clean your makeup tools so I will let you know how I get on with them. I was going to pick up a couple of boxes because they were on sale for £1 and there were loads there, but I didn’t want to spend my money on something that didn’t work. I’m just so lazy when it comes to cleaning my brushes, so if these work they could help me out so much! Again, super affordable and, potentially, very much time-saving and easy to use. I will write another blog post once I’ve attempted to use them!

16831526_971843202952909_72440196_n

Next I went into Superdrug and, once more, I was on a mission! For my last Drama exam I am applying makeup onto the actors in my designated group, so I needed to buy a face primer whilst I’m testing out my ideas and for the final performance in April. I had done my research beforehand and discovered the MUA Pro Base Smooth Set & Prime Primer, which I decided I was to get. This is a very lightweight product that only cost £5, which I don’t mind spending for my Drama portfolio. I’ve tried it on myself once, but I will do so again just so I can see the full effect of it, and I will be writing a review of it for you once I’ve used it a few times on the actor’s as well. I just find myself in quite a difficult situation of ‘I want to try the product out and see if it’s any good’ as well as ‘I want to keep it looking nice and new for the actor’s’, so it’s tricky, but it’s got a balmy-ish texture, so it’s not too noticeable if I’ve used a bit.

16839675_972500686220494_1351793226_n

The next thing I got in Superdrug was something else I’ve needed for a while and that is brow gel to set my eyebrows in place once I’ve filled them in. The one I was previously using I bought like 2/3 years ago, so I thought I was in definite need of an upgrade! As I was at the MUA counter I thought I would try out their Lash and Brow Clear Mascara because, for me, it’s not something that needs to be top quality in my makeup routine (unlike my foundation or eyeliner, for example) but I can’t complete my makeup routine without one! This was only £2 as well, so if it isn’t too great it isn’t money down the drain or a complete waste. Anyway, I will let you know how I get on with it!

The final thing I bought wasn’t something I needed, as such, but I’ve wanted one for such a long time and I’m so happy to finally have one in my collection! It’s the Tanya Burr Eye Shadow Palette in Fairytale. I picked this one up because I thought I would use these colours most in comparison to the little selection they had on offer, and it was one I was going to end up buying anyway. It contains 4 stunning neutral shades with the most gorgeous names – I just couldn’t resist it. I’ve received a lot of makeup recently so I really didn’t need this, but I wanted to test it out and I had the money on me, so thought ‘why not?’! This was only £6 so, again, it’s not money down the drain if it isn’t that great but I will let you know how I get along with it. I’ve tried her lip glosses before, though, and have been very impressed, so I do have high hopes for her palette! I’m literally so excited to try all this new stuff out!

And there we have it! I hope you have enjoyed this blog post – I love writing hauls, so let me know what you liked from this mini one here. Also, don’t forget to let me know what you’ve bought recently or what trends you have been loving!

Thank you so much for reading and I’ll see you Sunday,

Primark & Select Haul | Summer 2016

Good Afternoon Munchkins!

Today I will be showing you the few bits and pieces I picked up earlier in the week whilst out shopping in Primark and just a little bit in Select. I know I uploaded a blog post on Tuesday saying how I don’t write hauls enough so just to contradict myself, I thought I would end the week with one! I did go with a purpose as oppose to just mooching around and (as I’m sure you’ll agree) I actually spent my money pretty well considering I’m a teenage girl with an addiction to Primark shopping!

636073709181826796

The first thing I picked up in Primark (and was my main intention) was this little pyjama set for the grand total of £6. I’m going on holiday in the next couple of weeks and something I quite like to do is buy even just one new item of clothing for it so that I can look forward to the holiday instead of feeling anxious so new pyjamas were obviously a must – especially as their Alice and Wonderland themed! I did want to buy a set with leggings and a top but I didn’t have enough money for that and everything else I bought and they didn’t have any Alice ones so shorts and a vest it was! Anyone who owns a pair of summer Primark pyjamas will know that their shorts are ridiculously short so I bought it in XL which I think is 18-20 and I’m normally a 12-14, so these will definitely be hanging off me! I did try on a size L and didn’t like how it fit on me so obviously the bigger the better. This just has a basic striped vest top (which is quite baggy now I’ve bought it so big!) with a little Disney cartoon Alice and in gold glitter above her it says ‘Off To Wonderland’. The little shorts have a white background and little black items that are relevant such as a pack of playing cards or the little symbols you get on playing cards and things like that. They were just too cute and as soon as my friend pointed them out to me I was nearly crying. I am that obsessed with Alice and Wonderland! And for £6, you can’t go wrong, really! I’m also loving the monochrome theme – it’s me in a set of pyjamas!

WP_20160821_10_08_07_Pro

I then had to buy myself a new pair of little basic black pumps because the ones I already owned were starting to get old and scuffed and all horrible things like that. I basically repurchased the exact same pair I already own and for £4, I was not turning them down! These are so cheap but my previous ones lasted around 18 months and I wear them all the time, all year round – they just go with everything! These are just a pair of black pumps with no heels at all with a fabric-y type material covering it. I love these shoes and I think they are a must for every girl who needs a pair of ‘chuck on’ shoes!

wp_ss_20160821_0001

The next thing I purchased was this really cute pair of vintage style sunglasses for £2 (which I’m modelling in the sun for you now – sorry for the tiny picture!). I’m short-sighted, meaning I wear glasses all the time anyway and had put off buying sunglasses for a long time because I just thought ‘whats the point?’. I then learnt that without wearing sunglasses, the skin around your eyes can age quicker and I know I’m only 15, but wrinkles already scare me! Hence these beauties appearing in my life! I love these – they fit my head perfectly (I have a pretty small head) and despite having quite a large frame (which I’ve been told I suit, anyway!), they still suit me pretty well. They are in a matte, shell-nude type colour that I think will go with everything and the frame is kind of cat-eyed and reminds me a bit of Audrey Hepburn (I have no idea why). I think these might just be a timeless pair of sunnies that will work next summer as well as the rest of this one. The actual lenses have a kind of gradient type of effect as they get lighter towards the bottom of them which is good for when you’re looking down and reading or just generally doing something that doesn’t involve your retinas being burnt. I just really really like them!

WP_20160821_10_10_02_Pro

Right, last time I did a Primark haul I shared a piece of underwear with you and I think I spoke about how much I love novelty things and Primark is clearly the place for that! So, again, I decided to pick up a pair of knickers with a grey/charcoal background and little white cat faces on. There is also a really cute turquoise, glittery button on the front but it’s just for show instead of anything actually practical. Once more, there is a story. We were just wandering around the pyjama and underwear section (for obvious reasons) and my friend saw these and was like ‘They look like Dan and Phil!’. That’s enough for me to buy them and wear them on places Dan and Phil probably shouldn’t be. But yes, I love new underwear and I love Dan and Phil and £1.70, I couldn’t turn them down! I always love the way Primark underwear fits, as well; it’s just so comfy!

WP_20160821_10_11_00_Pro

The final thing I bought from Primark was a little present for my Mum because she’s lovely and deserves a little something from us (whether that’s ‘us kids’ or ‘us adopted daughters’ i.e. my friends!). I did buy her a Pina Colada lip balm because why not? She loves Pina Colada (something no one could ever blame her for) and she loves lip balm! Myself and my grandparents had also bought her some Prosecco flavoured lip balm recently so it added to her alcoholic lip balm collection (such a common hobby!). This was from the P.S. Love… collection (Primark’s own beauty range) and smells so strongly of Pina Colada that I’m tempted to use it myself! It’s a bit of a Barbie pink colour in the tin but is applied very sheer. This was only 80p.

636073709138426230

The last place I went to and the very last thing I bought was from Select and is this little cami peplum top. I obviously had to buy it in black (why would I even look at the other colours?) but I’ve wanted a top like this all summer and now I finally have one to my name! This was in the sale for £1.99 and so there weren’t many sizes available but I managed to find it in a 14 which makes it even flowier and therefore comfortable to wear. I think with blue jeans this could look effortlessly beautiful and it just looks so pretty on but it’s so comfy. I’d been in Select before but never actually bought anything so I’ll let you know how this wears but this is so soft and I really can’t wait to put it on my body! This is cami meaning it has quite thin straps but for my bigger-chested Munchkins I have found the answer – wear a bra of the same colour with it! I think this works better with black clothes because black bra straps can blend in a bit better and even look a bit trendy but it keeps your modesty in tact and doesn’t make it obvious. I just thought for £1.99 it doesn’t matter if I only wear it a few times and it’s just so lovely! Much excite for this one! I also feel like when I wear it I look like a sophisticated, well-put-together young woman when in fact I’d just bought this for a couple of quid in a sale.

And there we have it! I hope you have enjoyed this blog post – I love writing hauls! Let me know what you’ve been buying recently or what you liked from this little selection that I picked up. Also, let me know what you think of Select clothing if you have any yourself! My friends are trying to reassure me but I still have that first time buyer anxiety!

Thank you so much for reading and I’ll see you soon,

Rachel xx

Primark Summer Bits 2015

Good Afternoon Munchkins!

For those that have been here a long while, you may remember around this time last year myself and my Chum went to Primark and showed you some of the bits in there that we liked and decided to share with you (find it HERE). Well, today I will be showing you a few Summer-y bits I got a couple of weeks ago when I went down there for this years sequel. I don’t know about you, but I adore Primark, everything is so cheap and if it’s a trend that only lasts for that year, you haven’t lost out entirely! That and Iceland are the two places where people like myself and my family feel rich, honestly!

I only have a few bits I want to show you as they are the things that fit into the Summer category. I did go primarily for my Summer wardrobe (I’m that desperate!) but I also picked up some Winter bits like leggings and things just to keep me going until the warmer weather appears.

So, here we go:

WP_20150221_10_46_30_Pro

The first thing I saw as I walked into the archway to Heaven was this little dress with an Alice in Wonderland print. Everyone and their Mother knows I love Alice and Wonderland, so leaving this behind would be like abandoning a pet, to be honest. I initially (and my Mum, who was kind enough to take me) thought it was a vest top until I went into the changing rooms and tried it on. I’m not one for tiny mini skirts, but would you look at that! I love how this fits me, showing off the good and banishing the bad. I don’t know if I could get away with this if I was going swimming down where I live as I live by the sea and it can get windy, but for around the pool on holiday. The back is slightly low so does show my bra strap but in a foreign country, that does not bother me at all! I love this so much, will definitely be wearing this until I’m old and saggy.

WP_20150221_10_49_27_Pro

The next thing I picked up was this black and white skirt. If you remember in my Christmas Money Haul (find HERE) I mentioned I’d bought a black bardot top from ASOS Petite and I wanted it to be my goal to find skirts to go with it for the Summer. I bought a burgundy one for Winter as well as this one to go with it but I thought this one would be fine for all wear round. Also, I love the little brown belt that comes with it (though it looks black in the picture). It reminds me of sailors somehow! Sometimes lines can make you look elongated either way, but I really like the diagonal lines and it’s just swishy and it’s basically a Meghan Trainor skirt and that’s why I love it!

WP_20150221_10_57_43_Pro

The last Summer-y bit I want to show you are these white sandals. For the past 2 and a half years I’ve had some white sandals from F&F which are very similar to these but they’re thong sandals and I just can’t handle the thong bit in-between my toes. I honestly hate the feeling of it so much that the soles of my feet have been burnt in the transition from sun lounger to pool. Not a good look. This was one of my main priorities and I’m so glad I bought them. I watch (sorry, obsess) over Sprinkle of Glitter and she says they don’t last that long (though she also says it could be the way she walks) but we’ll see. I prefer white to any other colour because it seems a lot more holiday-villa-y which is always a good thing. I’m going to pair this with a pink dress I have which has a white collar and I know this will be a lot better than stumbling over heels. I’m so damn excited for my holiday now! 138 days! The only thing I would change about them is the silver rectangular tabs they have on them (not really visible in picture) as personally I think it looks tacky, but it’s not enough to make me go off them completely!

So those were my little Primark Summer Bits. I hope you enjoyed and let me know what this Summer’s trends are because I seriously have no clue. I’m going Rachel-style, as per usual. Let me know if you would like to see more of these. They’re basically mini-hauls but a lot more explanation which I enjoy anyway.

Thank you for reading and I’ll see you soon,

Rachel xx

What I Wore To Dirty Dancing/Father’s Day

Good evening Munchkins. Yes, another weekday blog, I’m sorry but as always I will be uploading at the weekend as per usual.

As you may or may not know, one of my birthday presents this year was to go see Dirty Dancing live at a local theatre. It was so good, it was a bit funnier than the film but I think I prefer musicals life to be honest because then it’s as if you’re there and that just makes it all the more special. I have done two other ‘What I Wore . . .’ blogs which I will link below but to set the scene it was a matinee performance and it was traditional English weather: unpredictable. It rained a bit on the train there but by the end of the evening it was a really nice sunset. I went with Chummy C and my Nan even though my Nan wasn’t going in to watch it with us but she booked them and everything. She went shopping instead but took us to dinner afterwards which was really nice.

The main thing I wore was this denim dress from Primark which I bought recently when I went to the most amazing Primark in the world in Liverpool. Seriously, if you’re coming to the UK, just go there, it’ll take you all day anyway! It was £11 which is really good because they also had one at New Look and Asos but it was like £22.99 so half price and just as good quality. I don’t know how to describe the material, it feels sort of denim-y but like nice denim-y if you know what I mean. I’m sorry, I will try to find a thesaurus next time! This was the first time I wore it out and I can easily say it is one of my favourite Summer buys at the moment. The reason there are two pictures is because it has a zip all the way up the back and though for some people this would be difficult, I found it more of a ‘Challenge’ as it were. I managed to do it, my arms are like doll’s arms now, but I did it! Another amazing thing about Primark is that it doesn’t have a specified ‘Petite’ area or on the website or anything but everything I try on, say a Skater Dress, is the length of a Skater Dress. I know I sound really stupid saying that, but I’m only 5 foot so finding anything like that which fits and isn’t too long or anything is like a miracle. Primark saw me and all us other short ones coming. Also can I just say now, sorry for poor photo quality.

Image

Image

For shoes I wore my black Creepers which I seem to be wearing now than ever before. I know that now they’re called ‘Flatforms’ but when I bought them last year I called them Moon Boots or Creepers. I only wore them a few times last year but they go with this dress really well as well as some other things I like to wear which are new so they are really good. I got these from Asda for £11, same price as the dress which might seem a rip-off but Asda do really good quality shoes and clothing despite being just seen as a supermarket. Also, adds height!

Image

The bag I took was the same bag I took to One Direction and is this bag from New Look which Chummy C got me for my birthday earlier this year. It’s black and leather or leather-type I’m not sure whether it’s real leather or not and I find these types of bags so helpful and practical while still looking very nice and festival-y. And before you say anything about the change in lighting, yes it is the same picture for the ‘What I Wore To One Direction’ blog post. And yes that means I’m lazy.

Image

For my hair, Chummy did my hair in a French Plait then pinned it back and I had natural makeup. If you would like any tutorials on my hair or makeup I would love to do that for you so just let me know. Also, if you’re from or live in the UK you will realise that the day after (the Sunday) was Father’s Day so I did wear this on Father’s Day as well. I had my hair in a Halo Braid and there’s a video on YouTube of that so I’ll link it below but I’m still willing to do a tutorial of it myself if you would like that.

I think that’s everything so thank you for reading and I’ll see you soon,

Rachel xx

Primark: Spring ’14

Hey Munchkins! If you read yesterday’s blog you will know that today I went shopping with Chummy C and thought it would be a good idea to show you some of the stuff in Primark as they don’t have a website and you probably don’t want to waste your time just wandering around aimlessly. The clothes are being modelled by both of us and we have split it into 4 categories: Normal Clothes, Swimwear, Pyjamas and Shoes. Each have 8 things from both of us apart from the shoes where it’s 4 from both of us. The swimwear has been laid on the floor purely because they are a little showy, but we thought you’d want to see them anyway. Also, we haven’t put our faces in the pictures for safety/security reasons. Enjoy! And please don’t judge the camera quality, it was all done on a BlackBerry.
