Christmas Go-To Nails | Blogmas

Good Evening Munchkins!

Today I thought I would share with you my Go-To Nails which are so quick and simple enough for even me to complete! I did do my nails this morning so it’s been a bit of a rush getting all the pictures for you, so I will apologise now! Next time I will be much more prepared, I promise! This nail look combines my two favourite things: black and glitter. I’m not someone who goes all out with patterns and accessories for my nails, mainly because I bite them and also I’m always typing, so they get chipped really easily no matter what! Anyway, as its the most wonderful time of the year, I thought I would still make the effort and paint them nonetheless because I am off school for two weeks now and I might as well fully embrace it!

15683278_933459116791318_204570969_n

The first thing I do (which is a shock to everyone, myself included) is apply a base coat. You can get these near enough anywhere but I just use the New Look Top and Base Coat simply because it was to hand and I don’t own any others! I told you I was good at all this nail business! Personally, I prefer to do this because it makes it easier to remove the polish, doesn’t stain the nails once you do remove it and it just makes me feel like I’ve fully completed it so can enjoy it! It’s not always necessary but it probably is with a black nail polish as it is so dark but do this to your own discretion. This is one of those things I’m not too fussed about and as long as it ‘does the job’ I’m all cool with it!

I then apply my first colour which is the Maybelline Colour Show Nail Polish in 677 Blackout which has got to be the blackest beauty product I own (so therefore receives more brownie points!). Most of the time I can get away with one coat but if certain nails need touching up or have become streaky (which will look quite obvious as it is so dark) I will add another layer just to even it up. I know this is going to sound random but I really like the brush on this, it’s really thick! I personally love black for a general ‘go-to’ colour because it matches with everything and isn’t too ‘in your face’, which really suits me. Of course, if you like bright colours go ahead, its just not very me at this time of year! This nail polish is available from Boots and Superdrug.

Next comes the glitter! A fair few years ago now I bought a little set of mini nail polishes which are mainly glitter based from Claires all in different colours and this is the time of year that they come out to play! This time I decided to take the silver one (there are around 5 or 6 colours in the set I think though I’d have a hard time telling you what each one is!) and just applied this onto my wedding ring finger on my left hand and what would be my wedding ring finger on the right. I think this is called the accent finger but I could have that completely wrong! I’m so happy with how this looks and, because the bottle and wand are so small, I couldn’t go wrong with it! I personally love silver at this time of year because it compliments most colours, matches my everyday jewelry and looks like little snowflakes! I couldn’t do Christmas without glitter really, could I?

15644448_933459133457983_1432363554_n-1

Finally, I be the good citizen I am and apply a top coat (the same as mentioned earlier). This just ensures everything is locked in place, reduces the chances of chipping (which I like and take advantage of a lot) and gets rid of the gritty feel that glitter can have and I hate with a passion. It’s crazy how much I love glitter but it’s just one little thing and I hate it again! I’m only joking, I could never hate glitter!

And there we have it! I hope you have enjoyed this blog post – I love writing little nail blog posts like this so I think I should do so a bit more! Let me know what other nail blog posts you would like to see and I will have a good go at it for you! Also, don’t forget to let me know what your Go-To Nails are for this time or just generally all year round! I think I need some new inspiration!

Thank you so much for reading and I’ll see you tomorow,

Rachel xx

Summer Nail Polish Ideas

Good Evening Munchkins!

As today is the first day of my summer holidays (let the hibernation begin), I thought I would share with you a few Nail Polish Ideas that are suited to this time of year. I’m not one for patterns or anything like that (mainly because my nails are so tiny) so I will just be showing you simple colours that are most appropriate for this fine weather. These are colours I have worn before, also, so I will tell you a little about the individual product as well. I haven’t actually painted my nails yet, but hopefully this will help me make my decisions!

13817101_839711619499402_1896395431_n

The first colour I love for summer is a simple nude. Throughout the rest of the year, I tend to wear black on my nails because it’s so simple and goes with everything, meaning I don’t have to worry about my makeup or outfit clashing with it. Nude is the new black in summer; it fits this criteria perfectly. It also looks absolutely stunning with a tan. I love this one from O.P.I in the colour Bubble Bath (purchase HERE). It is the perfect shade to match my skin whilst it’s still pale, during the burning process and then the (hopeful) tan that develops. It also lasts for quite a decent amount of time, considering how hands on and active I am.

13815275_839711686166062_1123244387_n

The next type of colours I like are those that are neon. This one is, again, from O.P.I  but in the colour Red Lights Ahead … Where?. I’ve worn this one with and without a tan and oh-me-oh-my is it gorgeous. This one is a red-toned orange (or an orange-toned red, depending on what way you see it) and it’s very bold and very bright. If I have a particular outfit or confidence, I will wear this; it really does look stunning during these summer months. Much like Bubble Bath, this does last a fairly decent amount of time and both leave a glossy finish on the nails. You can purchase Red Lights Ahead…Where? HERE.

13820903_839712062832691_913931287_n

This one won’t come as much of a shock to a few of you long-term readers. Orange is a colour that I adore and will find a way to slip in anywhere (I’m actually wearing an orange crop top as I type!) so it’s no surprise that it has made it onto this list. I also wrote an entire blog post dedicated to orange nail polishes, which you can find HERE. I love orange in the summer; again, it compliments a tan nicely whether you decide to go peachy or neon or just a basic orange. It can also brighten up any look. The one on the left is from Miss Sporty but I can’t remember the name (Sorry! Purchase it HERE) and the one on the right hasn’t got a name to it. Most brands now will offer a few variations of orange, though, so you can always pop into your local drugstore to have a look. The Miss Sporty one I’ve had for years now so I should probably invest in a new one, but I think it is really good value for money.

13814639_839712202832677_925314287_n

Finally, pastels. I love this for spring and summer as their white undertone really makes a tan stand out (there’s a theme here!). I also think they’re so versatile; there are so many pastel tones around now that can be worn so effortlessly. I bought a pack of 5 a couple of years ago now from Accessorize, but there are loads available now from nearly every brand. I personally think a pastel pink and yellow would look stunning in summer but I’m sure that most colours will work amazingly! These ones aren’t the best but that’s probably just as they’re getting older. Let me know of any other pastel ranges you love so that I can get my hands on them too!

And there we have it! I hope you have enjoyed this blog post – I feel like I haven’t written enough. If you have any further questions, please don’t hesitate to ask me in the comments below. Also, don’t forget to let me know of your favourite colours/nail polishes at this time of year for me to check out!

Thank you so much for reading and I’ll see you Sunday,

Rachel xx

P.S. As I mentioned at the beginning of the blog post, I am now on my summer holidays, but I will still be uploading three times a week as I have been recently. I know that normally during any of my holidays I will upload a bit more frequently, but this time I have another writing project planned so I need to try and balance my time. I hope you have had a nice day!

Maybelline Colour Show Nail Polish Review (in 677 Blackout)

Good Evening Munchkins!

Today I have a different type of review for you – one on a nail polish. ‘Woah there pony, somebody stop her, she’s getting wild!’ I know I just can’t help myself! I’ve owned this for a couple of months now (I included it in this HERE haul) and have worn it a couple of times and throughout those times have gathered enough information to share with you now. For those that are wondering, I still go to school so I can’t wear nail polish all the time (though I really wish I could!), hence why I’ve only worn it twice.

WP_20160612_13_49_31_Pro

Firstly, the packaging. There isn’t much to write home about in terms of packaging – it’s a typical glass nail polish bottle complete with screw on lid. I have just noticed though, that at the bottom it has that really cool dip glass thing that makes it look really elegant. You sometimes get that on really fancy glasses – that’s really boosted my mood! The lid is black on every colour in the range, not just mine, and I think that just makes it look really, as I’ve previously said, elegant. I think I need to get a thesaurus! Black does go with everything though. This bottle doesn’t really disappoint me (other than it’s glass so could be dangerous to travel with and it makes it a little bit heavier than other nail polishes I own) nor does it particularly overwhelm me (other than the fancy dip thing that I’ve just noticed!). The brush is relatively wide which I quite like because it quickens the process and I’m super impatient so again, bonus points!

This nail polish isn’t scented and so just smells like normal nail polish (which I’m not too keen on but that can’t be helped). I know you can get scented nail polishes but I don’t own one and I’m not too sure on the idea of them – what do you think? I knew I wanted a new black nail polish because the one I was using before this was starting to go a bit ming-mong and wasn’t as black as I’d liked it (only some of you will understand that!). I’m definitely not disappointed in Blackout – it is literally the darkest thing ever and I’m so pleased with it! This really fulfills my darkness needs and gives me the shade of black I love. I don’t think any of you realise how happy I genuinely am with it!

WP_20160612_13_49_40_Pro

Onto the actual product. I really do like this nail polish. It comes out super opaque and doesn’t go really lumpy like some nail polishes can. It also has a glossy finish. One of the things I like about it (though it could be due to the base coat I use) is that I can pull it off in one quick movement if I wanted to (which I tend to do a lot!). I hate having to take off nail polish with the nail polish remover because I realise that I must’ve been attacked my Edward Scissorhands in my sleep by the amount of little cuts I find so this is a huge bonus for me! I do sometimes find, as well, that if I remove it with nail polish remover it can stain my nails a little bit because it’s so dark but if you peel it off, it doesn’t as all. It does chip a little bit after a few days but I do consider myself pretty active and always doing so that doesn’t tend to surprise me anymore. This nail polish also dries relatively quickly, obviously depending on the thickness of the layer you just put on and how many layers you’ve got on and things like that. I don’t really know what else to say about it – it just ticks all my boxes!

Finally, availability and price. This is available from Boots and Superdrug as it’s Maybelline, so you have literally no excuse to not go pick one of these up! This retails for £3.99 which is really good for a nail polish of this standard. It is a bit more expensive compared to other drugstore brands but I do see Maybelline as being middle if there was a rank of highest to lowest drugstore pricing.

Would I recommend this? Definitely! I love this nail polish and there are a wide range of colours available to you. I think there’s even a top/base coat in this range! There are some other colours I’ve already started eyeing up for my next shopping trip! This range also offers shimmer colours as well as glossy colours.

And there we have it! I hope you have enjoyed this blog post! I don’t feel like I talk about nails enough on here so let me know what you would like to see more from this category! I also feel like I haven’t written enough so if you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask me in the comments. I don’t know what’s wrong with me – I normally overwrite!

Thank you so much for reading and I’ll see you soon,

Rachel xx

Top 3 Orange Nail Polishes

Good Evening Munchkins!

As some of you may know by now, I love the colour orange and literally have it/use it in everything I do. It’s becoming a slight obsession but to celebrate this love of mine and the beginning of the sun’s appearance here in the UK, I thought I would share with you my favourite orange nail polishes. The ones I’m about to show you are a total range of shades and shimmers and all good things just like that so lets just all relax and enjoy our wait for the heat!

WP_20160424_12_14_20_Pro

I’ve had some of these longer than others so some I’ve only tried once or twice but I can assure you that I do have some sense within me and do slightly know what I’m on about. Just trust me! This is mainly because I’m still in school so I can only paint my nails during the holidays and I do tend to go for a black nail polish just because it goes with everything and you don’t have to worry about colours clashing or anything. I’m also going to be going from left to right regarding this picture which is basically no real order considering time or anything. I don’t know what I’m saying anymore, ahh!

WP_20160424_12_14_54_Pro

This first nail polish doesn’t have a brand, name and subsequently no known place to buy it. We’re already off to a good start! I received this one for Christmas from my Step-Mum and I currently have it on my toes so I *should* be able to tell you oh-so-much about it! This is (as you can probably tell) a neon orange and something which I really do love for my toes. I don’t know why but bright neon’s on my toes just make me super happy! Also, how cute is the Russian-doll-style bottle?! This has already chipped but I have had a very busy week (at the time of writing, that is!). I really like this one and I would consider it on my finger nails for the summer time!

WP_20160424_12_14_30_Pro

This second nail polish is one I’ve had for nearly 4 years (is that really disgusting? Meh, I’ve probably told you worse!) and was one of the first beauty products I ever convinced my Mum to buy me. Look at how far we’ve come since then! This one is from the brand Miss Sporty  and the Quick dry Clubbing range without a colour name (10 points to Gryffindor, doing so well, haha! Though it could be 452, but don’t hold me to that). This is more of a pastel-y, muted peach shade which I lived for all those years ago! I do still love it but because it’s old, it has gone a little bit ming-mong. I hope this one is still available because it is so pretty for Spring! This is available from Boots.

WP_20160424_12_14_42_Pro

And finally, another Miss Sporty nail polish and this one has a name (hallelujah!)! I received this one for my birthday so it should still be available for you (knowing my luck, though…) and is from the 3D Texture Crush On You range, in the colour 063. I really really really like this nail polish! It is very much packed to the brim with glitter so could be worn over another polish with just one coat or be built up on its own. It can be built up to this opaque level. The orange glitter also has gold reflexes which looks stunning and yes, very much loving this. I included it in THIS blog post and I feel like I will be wearing it a lot more (though maybe just on my toes so other colours don’t clash. My priorities in life are evident!). This is also available from Boots.

And there we have it! I hope you have enjoyed this blog post; it was absolute bliss to write! Let me know what you’re favourite nail polishes are and why so I can look into them! Clearly this is an unhealthy addiction to orange but hey, someone out there has to agree with me (please do! Haha).

Thank you so much for reading and I’ll see you soon,

Rachel xx

P.S. Last week I found out my Naked palettes weren’t real which is very sad but the colours are still gorgeous and I will still be including it in my blog posts. One day I will get the real ones but for now you will have to be left a little confused after those blog posts! And sorry for any confusion if you tried to recreate any of the looks including any of the Naked palettes from my blog posts, I genuinely did not find out until last week.

Holiday Nails – Black and Orange

Good Evening Munchkins!
Today I will be showing you the nails I did for the half-term holidays from school. I did a similar blog post to this around Christmas time for the Christmas holidays so if you would like to see that, click HERE. This time round I did have a slightly different idea but I did eventually like how they turned out. I tried to combine my two favourite colours (black and orange) and yeah, used some slightly different techniques than I’d used before.

The products I used for this look were:

WP_20160220_14_33_57_Pro

I’m just going to warn you now, my nails always look like a 3 year olds done them and my hands are very small and fat!

WP_20160220_12_22_07_Pro

The first thing I did was apply the New Look Top and Base Coat. I’ve been searching for a top and base coat for literally years and I bought this one whilst ordering a load of stuff from New Look, so I will be reviewing it for some time soon. I do want to start using this a lot more in order to help the condition of my nails and the condition of my nail art (ha, this really isn’t art!).

I then apply a couple of coats of Lincoln Park After Dark (it kind of depended on the thickness and opacity as to how many coats I applied). This is my go-to black/dark nail polish, though it’s starting to run out and get a bit old so I may have to look for another one. If you have recommendations, you are very welcome to tell me them (I’m thinking Barry M). This isn’t actually black, but after a few layers it becomes black or dark enough to convince.

On my accent finger/ring finger, I used a cotton bud to apply a little bit of the Miss Sporty colour. I was intending on making it look similar to a French manicure, but my nails (my everything) are tiny so it basically covered half the nail anyway. I then applied it onto the entire nail and I found that this way it was more the glitter that was applied than the liquid of the product (if that makes any sense) and so you can still see the black through it. I really like this as it adds a bit more life to an otherwise slightly boring nail and is something I always try to do (sense the originality!).

I then just applied the top and base coat over all of this in order to set it. I originally thought this would make the nail smooth but it hasn’t (though this isn’t that much of a big deal to me). The only thing I’m not so keen on when it comes to waiting for everything to dry. I did have to wait until I was in the mood and I was relaxed to do these nails as I knew it would take a while. I am literally one of the most impatient people you will ever get to know (product of the 21st century) so this is something I will have to suffer for or mix some of the colours for (which kills my OCD).

And there we have it! I really liked these nails and how I managed to save it slightly and I am very impressed by the Miss Sporty nail polish. If you like doing your nails or have a specific way you like to do them, let me know as I am always open to new techniques.

Thank you so much for reading and I’ll see you soon,

Rachel xx

Christmas Nails 2015 | Blogmas

Good Afternoon Munchkins!

Today I will be showing you how I’ve done my nails for Christmas this year. In the UK (or England, I’m not sure, I’m not particularly educated!) we have two weeks off for Christmas so I’m planning on keeping these nails for that amount of time and think I’ve just about nailed it (see what I did there?!). I’m not a nail-type person so don’t judge, but for me this is some exciting stuff! Also, for those that want to know I have O.P.I’s I’m Not Really a Waitress on my toes but I know how people feel about toes so I didn’t include a picture!

I used two nail varnishes for this look; O.P.I’s Lincoln Park After Dark and a Silver Glitter one from Claires (came in a pack of 5 or 6 other coloured glitter nail polishes). There are other nail varnishes out there which I’m sure are just as good but these were the colours I had when I decided to decorate my nails!

All I did was apply three coats of the Lincoln Park After Dark (after waiting for it to dry after each one, my impatience was burning) and then a coat or two of the silver glitter on my ring fingers (I’ve actually forgotten the name and I’m too scared I’m going to get it wrong!). It’s so simple but I think it looks so beautiful! The reason I apply so many layers of Lincoln Park After Dark is because it’s a dark maroon-y colour and I love black on my nails! It doesn’t take much but it’s so worth it! I think black looks so chic and sophisticated and this one has a glossy finish so looks so amazing! I knew that as it was Christmas I should have at least some glitter on my nails for everyday and I was wondering for ages (my finalists were gold, red and silver, well done to all of them for getting that far!) but thought silver matched it perfectly and that it looked a little bit like snow. I think this is a look I might have to do every half-term holidays with different glitter as it’s all of my favourite things in one! Also, no matter what you wear, you’re nails will match as everything goes with black! I have a skin tone that goes well with silver and gold but my everyday jewelry is silver so it matches that as well! This is so organised, I’m so sorry!

And there we have it! I just thought I’d write a quick little blog post about my nails for those that are interested as around Christmas everyone makes that little bit of extra effort, I think. If you’ve done you’re nails for Christmas this year, let me know how you’ve done it or what you’re staple Christmas nail look is!

Thank you so much for reading and I’ll see you soon,

Rachel xx

P.S. Tomorrow’s Christmas Eve! Oh my God, where has the month gone?! I’m so excited!

Easter Nail Polishes 2015

Good Afternoon Munchkins!

Today I will be doing a blog post I’ve only written once before I think and that was at the beginning of last September or end of last August as that was the end of the 6 week Summer holidays. I feel like I should do these more often just to keep you up to date with colours and what nail polishes to go for. Personally, when it comes to the holidays, I change my nail polish colours once a week, normally on a Sunday. This holiday was only 2 weeks long so two nail polishes were used and I will be doing mini reviews on them for you today. Also, just to let you know this is for my fingernails.

These were the 2 nail polishes I wore:

WP_20150418_14_03_02_Pro

Every Spring I love to wear pastel colours, it just puts me in the right Spring-y mood, so these two were a no-brainer for me. The first week I wore Essence’s Colour and Go in You Belong With Me (or To Me, I can’t really remember) and the second this Nail Art one from Accessorize in a pastel pink. The first one I will be talking about is the Essence one.

WP_20150418_14_03_08_Pro

If you have been here a while, you will know how much I love this brand and my despair that the only products I have are only available in Ireland where I bought them or have been discontinued. I have worn this colour before and I absolutely adore it. It’s like a pale duck egg kind of colour which is shiny and even though it was bought nearly 4 years ago, still applies perfectly and easily. I think this kind of colour is one of my favourites and I’m going to be oh so sad when it runs out. In saying all this, it’s not dissimilar to Tanya Burr’s nail polish in Little Duck, so I may have to pick one of those up once it’s finished. It’s a perfect budget buy and great quality for what you pay. I think maybe by Friday or Saturday night it had started to chip, but even then not much. I love this nail polish so much! I also have it in two other colours, one a deep purple and another a paler, ashier kind of purple.

WP_20150418_14_03_14_Pro

The other nail polish I wore doesn’t really have a name but it was a pastel pink so I just thought ‘yep, want you on my nails for the next 7 days’. It’s from Accessorize and it came in a little pack of around 5 other pastel colours for around £5. I really didn’t like this nail polish, not compared to the love I had for the Essence one. Applying it was a mission; I’ve only had it about 2 years (half the time of the Essence one, which was so nice to apply) and it didn’t come out gloopy as much as it didn’t want to get off the brush or out of the bottle. I applied 2 layers, got extremely frustrated so took it off only to have to apply another 2 or 3 layers on certain nails. It has already chipped pretty badly and it has those kind of air bubble things which kills my OCD heart. Other than that, the colour looks good with my now slightly tanned hands (oh yes, loving this weather!) but that’s all the good I can say about it. If you have any good brands that sell an affordable but decent pastel pink, do let me know as it may be needed!

So those are my nail polishes for Easter 2015. I hope you have enjoyed this blog post, I have certainly enjoyed writing it. For those that want to know (which is probably none of you, but hey ho), but little one night adventure in Brighton was so beautiful. It has such a great shopping centre and the weather was really nice and yeah. I might have to go back! Also, Monday I go back to school *sad face* so I will be back to blogging just on Saturday’s and Sunday’s. Sad times.

Thank you so much for reading and I’ll see you soon,

Rachel xx
