January 2016 Favourites

Good Evening Munchkins!

Today I have my first Favourites of the year which just seems insane. One month gone already and all I’ve done is woken up from Christmas! I don’t know why but I kind of feel like when you prepare for Favourites (I make notes all throughout the month) it’s as if you’re wishing the month away. Of course, you’re not but it kind of feels like that. Don’t take that the wrong way, I do love a good ol’ Favourites but I was just thinking and yeah. Sorry! I have a variety of beauty bits and a fair few randoms of things I have been loving. I’ve made a serious attempt at trying to not to put all of my Christmas presents in there but I have put a few cheeky items in. You won’t regret me putting it in though! I’m going to stop rambling now and just get on!

This first item is actually a makeup brush, which is a side of beauty I don’t really delve into too much. Before this brush (or this set of brushes, should I say), I didn’t see the huge fuss surrounding certain brushes, but now I see why! This one is the Real Techniques Deluxe Shadow Brush from the Starter Collection and wow-ee is it amazing! It is ridiculously soft; I would actually go up to strangers and rub this on their faces. I use this one to blend out really harsh lines, like in my crease, and it really does it without much effort at all. This also works on cream products and any kind of eye shadow you can think of. It’s also not that dirty yet, which is a plus side for someone as lazy as me!

To follow up from that, I’ve also been loving the deluxe crease brush from the same set by Real Techniques. I will be writing a blog post about the entire set (not quite a review, but something similar) but that could be a while! As you can probably tell from the colour of the bristles, I have been using this for my concealer. This makes my concealer look so beautiful without having any of the lines from the bristles imprinted it to it and making it look like it actually is my skin (which, of course, is the wanted effect!). I just use this in circular motions and it’s done! It doesn’t take too much time at all. It’s also super soft like the other one and it’s just a pleasure to put on my face! Both these brushes are available in the Starter Set by Real Techniques, which is available from Boots (even though they don’t have a link available!) and Superdrug.

My next Favourite is one of the Maybelline 24 Hour Colour Tattoo’s in On and On Bronze. I had been lusting after this for ages after having such a good experience with the colours Pink Gold and Eternal Gold (I just wanted something a bit more natural!) and now it’s firmly in my everyday makeup bag. It’s not subtle enough to wear at school, but this is what I turn to if I want to just quickly pop something onto my eyes without much thought. I’m actually going to include it in an MOTD soon, so keep your eyes peeled for that! As with the others, the lasting power is incredible (I don’t wear my makeup for 24hrs but I’m sure Maybelline wouldn’t lie to you!), it doesn’t crease anywhere and the pigmentation is stunning. This is also a shimmer colour which obviously gives it extra points! If you would like to see the most ancient review on this product, click HERE. This is available in Boots and Superdrug.

Lastly on the beauty side of things is Argan Oil. This one doesn’t have a brand and is probably a really basic version as I only got it in B&M to try it out but it is still amazing! As you may know, I naturally have very curly, frizzy hair which is prone to knots so I’m always on the lookout for something that will tame my hair and leave it knot-free for at least 5 minutes. I just picked this up as I’d heard people talk about it before and I wanted a cheap version to try so I didn’t waste any money. Oh-me-oh-my, I don’t think I’m ever going to go to a drugstore version! I spray all of my hair with it whilst its wet and then blow dry and it’s just so soft and straight but with so much volume, it’s just insane! I also shower and do my hair at night so I sleep in freshly washed hair but I will still wake up in the morning and have absolutely perfect hair. It doesn’t make my hair look greasy either, and I’m someone who only washes it like twice a week. You need this in your life, just trust me!

Moving onto more random Favourites, this one is Blistex. You may be wondering why I included this but this actually cured my face. If you remember when I was doing MOTD or something of that sort where you had to see my face (or my mouth) I had little cuts/splits in the corners of my mouth. I blamed the mix of the cold weather and my retainer but it actually got to the point I felt it looked disgusting and it was sore and flakey and dry and just all round disgusting. I then started using this after speaking to the really nice pharmacist lady in Boots and I have not looked back since! I just dabbed the tiniest amount in the corners of my mouth as and when I felt necessary and within a couple of weeks it had completely healed. There isn’t even any marks to show where it was and I’m super chuffed about that! When you first put it on it has like a really cooling feeling, like when you first start chewing mint gum. Yeah, that satisfying feeling! This was at the very beginning of the month so I’m been able to smile all month without feeling like somebody is trying to rip my face apart. I’m super chuffed with this and if you would like to get some for yourself, you can purchase it from Boots and Superdrug.

My final favourite of this month are a couple of songs I have been listening to and absolutely loving. For some reason at some point, I ended up on a Disney playlist and now that’s all I listen to. My top three would definitely have to be Diggah Tunnah from Lion King 3, Hawaiian Roller Coaster from Lilo and Stitch and I Won’t Say I’m In Love from Hercules. Just go listen to them, you will not realise how good the songs were when you were little! These have constantly been on repeat and yes, my life goal is to now be a Disney princess. Just going to live my life through singing and being rescued and the patriotic way every expects. Though I have also been loving I’ll Make a Man Out Of You from Mulan. I think I’ve balanced it out! Sometimes I do say it’s because of my younger brothers who are 6 and 4, but it’s not; I genuinely love Disney more than them!

And there we have it! January Favourites are done! Let me know what you have been loving this month in the comments or what products I just need to get my hands on. I’m so looking forward to this year, I cannot tell you! I want this year to be amazing considering how not last year was. Things can only get better!

Thank you so much for reading and I’ll see you soon,

Rachel xx

P.S. After I uploaded my last blog post, I saw I had hit 200 followers which is just crazy! I don’t think I can even list 200 people let alone be writing to them every week! I just want to say thank you for everyone who has clicked that ‘follow’ button, you mean a lot to me and without your support I would’ve stopped at the first hurdle.

Also, happy birthday to Maria and Phil for Saturday!

    1. Thank you! I personally love them and as they’re budget, I would just buy one! Haha. I haven’t actually heard any negative reviews on them but maybe I just block them out (I don’t need that kind of negativity against something I love so dearly!). Rachel xx

  1. Fab products as always Rachel! I also love that Real Techniques brush – it blends concealer like an absolute dream! 🙂 also, congratulations on 200 followers! You totally deserve each and every one of them! xxx
